OUR HISTORY
On the northeast side of the San Jacinto Valley Arrow Printing has been doing business at the same location since 1955. 67 years is something to be proud of in itself. The business has been in continuous operation and owned by one family for 94 years!
Continues to provide quality printing at a competitive price!
In 1928 (one year before the Great Depression), Roy Walker, an employee at the L.A. Stationers Corporation decided to start his own business. He rented a small storefront near the Coliseum in L.A. He worked 6-7 days a week building up a small forms business catering mainly to the auto industry. He and his wife Leona survived the great depression staying in operation through the tough times and by the time World War II had started his business had become a successful printing operation. During the war Roy provided printing for the U.S. government to help the war effort.
As the Los Angeles population started to explode, Roy wanted a small rural environment for his family. After several years of looking and a brief try at the Glen Avon area near Riverside, the Walker family made the move to the San Jacinto Valley. Not long after moving to the valley he down-sized and moved the printing operation to its present location on Mountain Avenue.
Roy’s oldest son Walt graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1954, and attended college at Cal Poly Pomona. Walt had originally hoped to be a commercial photographer. He worked for several years at the Press Enterprise. At that time there was little room for advancement. Walt married Sondra Baumeister of Hemet in 1958. A year later their son Kevin was born at the Hemet Valley Hospital.
For many years Walt, Sondra, Kevin and his sister Lisa lived in a mobile home on the family property next to Arrow Printing. Roy and Leona also had a house next to the family printing business. Kevin literally grew up at the family business.
Kevin graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1977. He attended Mt. San Jacinto Community College and then entered into the family business, though he had worked after school for his dad and grandfather for many years. In 1984 Roy and Walt made Kevin a partner in the family printing operation and continued that way until the passing of Roy in 1991. Walt lost a battle with Melanoma cancer in 2006. Kevin has four daughters. For over 35 years Kevin was a member of the Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit. He ultimately served as President of the National Mountain Rescue Association. He served as President of the San Jacinto Chamber in 1991. He served for seven years as a board member on the Hemet/San Jacinto Valley Chamber of Commerce. Kevin attends Community Christian Church in Hemet.
The business now is back to one Walker. Kevin continues the tradition that his grandfather started 94 years ago… Provide quality printing at a competitive price. Kevin is quite proud of the family operation. Arrow Printing is the oldest printer in the San Jacinto Valley – one of the oldest businesses in the valley located at the same location since 1955. And quite possibly the oldest business outright being in continuous operation under one family ownership for 94 years!
